The learning branch of my tree of life is the strongest of them all. It not only sends strength to the other branches, but throughout the rest of the tree as well. Why, you may wonder, was it afforded such an honor? Well, its connection to the roots is greater than all the others, seeing as it was the first to sprout. Its journey to survive wasn’t a pretty one, though. In fact, a strong wind and heavy rain had broken it from its foundation. But its will to survive overshadowed its seemingly apparent demise. When the other branches appeared, they looked towards the first of their kind for wisdom. They too sprouted beautiful green leaves and, in time, fruit as well. The learning branch taught the others about courage by being courageous. In time, the elder branch grew ten times the size of the youthful ones, giving them a visual of what they could expect. And I bore witness to it all. I remember when I first planted the tree in question. Since that day, its growth and development has enlightened me so much. Some days, I climb the mighty tree and sit on the first branch of its kind. I reminisce about the days of old, which are responsible for the days of now. I thank the matriarch branch for not only the abundance of apples she produces, but for those of the other branches as well. Because of their generosity, I’m afforded a life most could only dream of. I’ve sold enough apples to invest money into the ideas of people who gave me a fifteen percent stake in their businesses. The learning branch not only enlightened me on how to live but also gave me a means to help others to do likewise as well.

Our work is how we immortalize ourselves. The measure of recognition will depend on our level of creativity. We were not created to create the same. Even though we all possess the same light, our gift to shine is unique. And it’s the uniqueness of our shine that keeps us motivating each other.

Never underestimate your ability to make a difference.-Henery X
